Alonzo Theodoro Menifield[3] (born October 18, 1987) is an Americanmixed martial artist currently competing in theLight Heavyweight division of theUltimate Fighting Championship (UFC). A professional since 2015, he has formerly fought inBellator and theLegacy Fighting Alliance. As of November 25, 2025, he is #15 in theUFC light heavyweight rankings.[4]
Menifield was born inLos Angeles, California. After his father died, his mother raised him and his brother until the age of 14 when the boys were put in foster care. Menifield bounced around between 12 different foster homes. Menifield attendedCanyon High School for only two years, but graduated and excelled atfootball. Menifield continued his football career at NJCAAGlendale Community College (California), where he starred as primarily alinebacker and was an Honorable Mention All-American his sophomore year as well as a member of the track and field team.[5] After his first two seasons at Glendale, Menifield earned a scholarship toTexas A&M University–Commerce where he graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice. Menifield later played football professionally in both theCFL andArena Football League.[6]
Menifield made his MMA debut atheavyweight against Zach Rosol on November 20, 2015 atBellator 146.[7] He won the fight via TKO in the first round.[8]
Menifield then moved tolight heavyweight and won his next two fights via TKO and KO before fighting inDana White's Contender Series.[9][10]
Menifield faced UFC veteran Daniel Jolly on July 25, 2017 atDana White's Contender Series 3.[11] He won the fight via TKO at the end of round one due to an eye injury but failed to secure a contract with the UFC.[12]
Menifield was provided with a second chance against Dashawn Boatwright on June 16, 2018 atDana White's Contender Series 9.[13] He won via TKO with ground on pound strikes within the first 8 seconds of the first round and was awarded with a UFC contract.[14]
Menifield made his UFC debut on January 19, 2019 againstVinicius Moreira atUFC Fight Night 143.[15] He won the fight via TKO with punches in round one.[16]
Menifield then facedPaul Craig on June 29, 2019 atUFC on ESPN 3.[17] He won the fight via KO with punches in round one.[18]
Menifield then facedDevin Clark on June 6, 2020 atUFC 250.[19] He lost the fight via unanimous decision.[20]
Menifield was scheduled to faceOvince Saint Preux on August 22, 2020 atUFC on ESPN 15.[21] Just hours before the event was scheduled to begin, it was announced that the bout was canceled due to Saint Preux testing positive for COVID-19.[22] The bout eventually took place on September 5, 2020 atUFC Fight Night 176.[23] Menifield lost the fight via knockout in the second round.[24]
Menifield was expected to faceWilliam Knight on February 27, 2021 atUFC Fight Night 186.[25] However, the bout was postponed during the week leading up to the event after Menifieldtested positive for COVID-19. The pairing was expected to be left intact and rescheduled forUFC 260.[26] This time Knight was removed due to COVID-19 protocols and was replaced by promotional newcomerFabio Cherant.[27] At the weight-ins, Cherant weighted 206.5 pounds, half a pound over the non-title light heavyweight limit. The bout proceeded at a catchweight and he was fined 20% of his individual purse, which went to his opponent Menifield.[28] Menifield won the fight viaVon Flue choke in round one.[29]
Menifield facedEd Herman on August 7, 2021 atUFC 265.[30] He won the fight via unanimous decision.[31]
Menifield was scheduled to faceWilliam Knight on February 27, 2021 atUFC Fight Night 186.[25] However, the bout was postponed during the week leading up to the event after Menifieldtesting positive for COVID-19. The pairing was expected to be left intact and rescheduled forUFC 260.[26] This time Knight was removed due to COVID-19 protocols.[27] The pair was rescheduled to December 4, 2021 atUFC on ESPN 31.[32] Menifield lost the fight via unanimous decision.[33]
Menifield was scheduled to faceNicolae Negumereanu on June 4, 2022, atUFC Fight Night 207.[34] However, Negumereanu was removed from the event for undisclosed reasons and he was replaced by Askar Mozharov.[35] Menifield won the fight via technical knockout in the first round.[36]
Menifield facedMisha Cirkunov on October 15, 2022, atUFC Fight Night 212.[37] He won the fight via knockout in round one.[38]
Menifield facedJimmy Crute on February 12, 2023, atUFC 284.[39] After a point deduction in the third round due to Menifield grabbing the fence, the fight ended in a majority draw.[40]
Menifield then faced Crute in a rematch on July 8, 2023, atUFC 290.[41] He won the fight via a guillotine choke submission in the second round.[42]
Menifield facedDustin Jacoby on December 16, 2023, atUFC 296.[43] He won the fight via unanimous decision.[44]
Menifield next stepped in to replaceDominick Reyes againstCarlos Ulberg atUFC on ESPN 54 on March 30, 2024.[45] On February 20, 2024 it was reported that the fight was rescheduled forUFC on ESPN 56 on May 11, 2024.[46] Menifield lost by knockout 12 seconds into the first round.[47]
Menifield facedAzamat Murzakanov on August 3, 2024, atUFC on ABC 7.[48] He lost the fight by knockout in the second round.[49]
Menifield was scheduled to face Oumar Sy on March 22, 2025, atUFC Fight Night 255.[50] However, Sy withdrew due to an injury, so Menifield instead faced promotional newcomer Julius Walker atUFC Fight Night 252 on February 22, 2025.[51] Menifield defeated Walker by split decision.[52] This fight earned him aFight of the Night award.[53]
Menifield's bout with Oumar Sy was rescheduled and took place on June 14, 2025, atUFC on ESPN 69.[54] He won the fight by unanimous decision.[55]
Menifield facedVolkan Oezdemir on November 22, 2025, atUFC Fight Night 265.[56] He lost the fight by knockout in the first round.[57]
Menifield is married and has two sons; Alonzo Jr., and Zavier.[58]
