Allan Heinberg (born June 29, 1967) is an American film screenwriter, television writer and producer and comic book writer.

Heinberg is the screenwriter of the 2017 filmWonder Woman, directed byPatty Jenkins. His television writing and producing credits includeThe Naked Truth,Party of Five,Sex and the City,Gilmore Girls,The O.C.,Grey's Anatomy,Looking, andScandal. Most recently, Heinberg developed, wrote, and ran ABC'sThe Catch, starringMireille Enos andPeter Krause and also developed the 2022 Netflix series onThe Sandman.

ForMarvel Comics, Heinberg co-created and wroteYoung Avengers and its sequel,Avengers: The Children’s Crusade with co-creator/artistJim Cheung. As part of this series, he co-created the Marvel charactersKate Bishop,Hulkling,Iron Lad,Patriot (Eli Bradley),Speed, andWiccan. ForDC Comics, Heinberg co-wroteJLA: Crisis of Conscience withGeoff Johns (art byChris Batista), and re-launched Wonder Woman with artists Terry and Rachel Dodson.

Early life

Heinberg is a graduate ofBooker T. Washington High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma andYale University class of 1989. He was inMorse College. Heinberg acted in the Broadway cast ofLaughter on the 23rd Floor and appeared off-Broadway inHello Muddah, Hello Fadduh and the Vineyard Theatre's production of Bob Merrill'sHannah...1939 starring Julie Wilson.[1]

A stageplay calledThe Amazon's Voice helped launch Heinberg's screenwriting career in 1994.[2] The play was producedoff-Broadway by theManhattan Class Company and featuredTim Blake Nelson andEllen Parker in lead roles.[3][4]

Comics

Heinberg'sYoung Avengers was a sales success and fan favorite forMarvel Comics. He returned to write for the Young Avengers during the 2010–2011Children's Crusade storyline.

After co-writing a 5-issue arc ofDC Comics'sJLA withGeoff Johns, Heinberg and artistTerry Dodson relaunchedWonder Woman following theInfinite Crisis limited series.

Heinberg won the 2005Wizard Fan Award for Breakout Talent forYoung Avengers[5]

On television, Heinberg worked onThe Naked Truth,Party of Five,Sex and the City,Gilmore Girls,The O.C.,Grey's Anatomy,Looking,Scandal andThe Catch, and served as Executive Producer ofThe CW'spilot for theirWonder Woman origin seriesAmazon in 2012, but the pilot was not picked up to series.[6] In 2019, it was announced that Heinberg would develop atelevision adaptation ofThe Sandman forNetflix. He also executive produces the show withNeil Gaiman andDavid S. Goyer.[7]
