Alison Elizabeth Bennett is a BritishLiberal Democrat politician who has served asMember of Parliament (MP) forMid Sussex since 2024.

Education and career

Bennett was educated atThe King's School, Gloucester, andNewnham College, Cambridge, graduating in 1999 with a degree in social and political sciences.[1][2] Bennett worked forBritish Airways and thenE.ON.[3]

Political career

Bennett contestedArundel and South Downs for the Liberal Democrats at the2019 general election, coming second to theConservative candidateAndrew Griffith.[4]

She has served as a member ofMid Sussex District Council, representing the wards of Hurstpierpoint and Downs from 2019 to 2023 andHurstpierpoint since 2023.[5][6] Bennett was the council's deputy leader when she was selected to stand in the2024 general election.[7]

In the2024 General Election, she was elected asMember of Parliament (MP) forMid Sussex 39.6% of the vote becoming the first Liberal Democrat MP for the constituency since its creation in 1974.[8]
