Alireza Khatami (born 1980) is anIranian-Canadian film director and screenwriter.[1] He is most noted for his 2025 filmThe Things You Kill, which was selected as Canada's submission for theBest International Feature Film award at the98th Academy Awards.[2]
His debut feature film,Oblivion Verses, debuted in theOrizzonti program at the74th Venice International Film Festival in 2017,[3] where it won a number of awards including Best Screenplay in the Orrizonti section, theFIPRESCI Award and the Interfilm award.
In 2023, Khatami andAli Asgari collaborated onTerrestrial Verses, which premiered in theUn Certain Regard section at the2023 Cannes Film Festival.[4]
The Things You Kill premiered at the2025 Sundance Film Festival,[5] where it was named the winner of the World Cinema Dramatic Competition.[6]
He is an associate professor of film atToronto Metropolitan University.[7]
