Alina Obidniak (29 June 1931 – 29 October 2021) was a Polishtheatre director andactress.[1][2]
Graduate of acting at theLudwik Solski Academy of Dramatic Arts inKraków, and film directing at theNational Film School in Łódź andGerasimov Institute of Cinematography inMoscow in the class ofAlexander Dovzhenko.[1]
Obidniak was anartistic director of the Wojciech Bogusławski Theatre inKalisz (1964-1970) andCyprian Kamil Norwid Theatre inJelenia Góra (1973-1988, 2000), where she invited many renowned theatre directors includingKrystian Lupa,Henryk Tomaszewski,Adam Hanuszkiewicz and Jean-Marie Pradier.[3][4] In 1978theatre critics awarded the Norwid Theatre atThéâtre des Nations Festival inCaracas.[5] In 1983 she organised an early Festival of Street Theatre in Jelenia Góra.[6]
Since the 1950s, she has been a close friend and confidant of fellow theatre directorJerzy Grotowski.[1][7] In 1995, Obidniak received the title of Polish "Woman of Europe" fromEuropean Commission.[5]
