Alfred Bennett (13 November 1898 – 6 January 1963) was an Englishfootballer who played as agoalkeeper forNottingham Forest andPort Vale.[2]

Career

Bennett played for Clowne Rising Star andNottingham Forest before joiningPort Vale in May 1927.[1] Preferred toGeorge Holdcroft andHoward Matthews, he played 24Second Division appearances and played oneFA Cup game in the1927–28 season.[1] However, he was replaced by new signingJack Prince. After playing just 11 times in the1928–29 season, he left theOld Recreation Ground on afree transfer in May 1929.[1]

Later life

Bennett later worked as a greengrocer inRipley, Derbyshire for 30 years. He collapsed and died while shovelling snow for a fellow shopkeeper in January 1963, aged 64. He was remembered as a charitable and popular figure in the community.[2]
