Alexander Chow (simplified Chinese: 曹荣锦;traditional Chinese: 曹榮錦;pinyin:Cáo Róngjǐn) is aChinese American theologian. He is Senior Lecturer inTheology andWorld Christianity and co-director ofCentre for the Study of World Christianity atNew College,University of Edinburgh. His research interests includecontextual theology,Christianity in China,Chinese philosophy and religion,public theology, anddigital theology.[1]
Born and raised in SouthernCalifornia, he completed a MA inbiblical studies and theology atFuller Theological Seminary in 2006 and a MTh in theology atRegent College in 2008. He finished his PhD in theology in 2012 at theUniversity of Birmingham, supervised under Edmond Tang.[2] He then spent a year in the School of Liberal Arts atRenmin University of China as a postdoctoral fellow.[3] He joined the University of Edinburgh as a Chancellor Fellow in September 2013. He is now senior lecturer in theology and world Christianity and co-director of Centre for the Study of World Christianity.[1]
He is an editor of the journalStudies in World Christianity andthe Liu Institute Series in Chinese Christianities of Notre Dame Press.[4] He was also the chair ofChinese Christianities Program Unit atAmerican Academy of Religion (2015-2022).[3]
