Alex Ojahn Matos (born 3 October 2004) is an English professionalfootballer who plays as acentral midfielder ordefensive midfielder forEFL Championship clubOxford United, on loan fromPremier League clubChelsea.
Born inBedford, educated at Langley School, Norfolk. Matos started his career withKempston Colts, later joiningLuton Town at under-9 level,[3][4] before joiningNorwich City in 2016.[5] Matos can play in attacking midfield, either wing or as a striker.[6] He became a regular for Norwich's Under-18s during the 2022–23 season.[7] He also made his debut for the Under-21s and scored three goals in thePremier League 2 for the latter.[8]
On 1 July 2023, Matos signed forPremier League sideChelsea.[9] The transfer was reported as a free transfer with add-ons.[10]
On 2 October 2023, a day before his 19th birthday, Matos made his professional debut in thePremier League match againstFulham. He came off the bench in stoppage time, replacingEnzo Fernández in a 2–0 away victory.[11]
On 4 January 2024, Matos signed forEFL Championship sideHuddersfield Town on loan until the end of the season.[12] He scored his first senior goal in a 5–3 defeat toSouthampton.[13] He made 19 league appearances for the Terriers as Huddersfield were relegated toLeague One.
On 10 January 2025, Matos joinedEFL Championship sideOxford United on loan until the end of the season.[14]
Matos is ofGhanaian descent.[3] He has represented England at the under-15 level.[15][16]
On 7 June 2024, Matos made hisEngland U20 debut during a 2–1 win overSweden atStadion ŠRC Sesvete.[17]
