Alex Peter Traian Mateas (born March 28, 1991) is a former professionalCanadian footballoffensive lineman who played for five seasons for theOttawa Redblacks of theCanadian Football League (CFL). He was drafted by the Redblacks with thefirst overall pick in the2015 CFL Draft.[1] He won aGrey Cup championship with the Redblacks in2016. He announced his retirement on July 5, 2021.[2]
Mateas playedcollege football at theUniversity of Connecticut from 2012 to 2014 afterredshirting atPenn State University in 2010.[3] His father, Traian Mateaş is a retired soccer player and current youth coach at Ottawa TFC.[4]
