Alexander Christian Irvine (born March 22, 1969) is an Americanfantasy andscience fiction author.

Education and early life

Irvine has aB.A. from theUniversity of Michigan (1991), an M.A. from theUniversity of Maine (1996), and a Ph.D. from theUniversity of Denver (2003).[2] From 2005-11, he was anassistant professor of English at the University of Maine.[2]

He worked for a time as areporter atThe Phoenix.[3]

Career

Irvine has worked onalternate reality games includingThe Beast (2001) andI Love Bees, and is the writer of theFacebook gameMarvel Avengers Alliance (2012).[4]

He first gained notability with hisLocus Award–winning 2002 novelA Scattering of Jades (which also won theCrawford Award in 2003) and the stories that would form the 2003 collectionUnintended Consequences. He has also publishedThe Grail Quest novelOne King, One Soldier (2004), and theWorld War II-era historical fantasyThe Narrows (2005).[2] He released acollection of thirteen short stories calledPictures from an Expedition in 2006.[2]

He wroteTheVertigo Encyclopedia.[5][6][7] As well as writing about comics, he has written a number of comic book series, including one featuringDaimon Hellstrom for theMarvel Comics imprintMax,[8][9]Daredevil Noir,[10][11] andIron Man: The Rapture.[12]

Personal life

He is married with twins, a boy and girl, and two younger children.[2]

Irvine appeared onJeopardy! in 2015. He was a one day champion, winning $26,000.[13]
