The titleAleqa ("Master", also transliteratedAlaqa) is ahonorific title used in theEthiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church. It is used as the title of a chiefpriest of a major church, the head of amonastery, as well as being anhonorific for a highly educated member of the church, especially in the case ofdabtaras.
An Alaqa is responsible for maintaining order in the church, as well as the administration.[1]
