Aleksandar Trajkovski (Macedonian:Александар Трајковски; born 5 September 1992) is a Macedonian professionalfootballer who last played forHajduk Split and currently plays for theNorth Macedonia national team. Mainly aforward, he can also play as awinger or anattacking midfielder.
Trajkovski began his career withFK Cementarnica 55. In May 2010, he joinedChelsea in a trial, scoring the winning goal againstBotafogo at the U-19Copa Amsterdam tournament which guaranteed Chelsea a place in the semi-finals.[2]
After a few years with Cementarnica Skopje, he signed forInter Zaprešić in the summer of 2010.[3] Good performances in the second half of the season attracted the interest ofDinamo Zagreb,[4][5] but Trajkovski said that he was not interested in a possible move. At the end of the season,R.S.C. Anderlecht was interested in buying Trajkovski, but their offer of a €500,000 transfer fee was rejected.[5] He joined the Belgian clubZulte Waregem for the new2011–12 season after their offer of €1.1m was accepted by Inter Zaprešić.[5][6]
In the summer of 2015, he moved to ItalianSerie A clubPalermo, signing a five-year contract.[7] In the same year, he was named "Macedonian footballer of the year".[8] Following Palermo's exclusion from the Serie B, he was released together with all other players in July 2019.
On 7 August 2019, Trajkovski agreed to a four-year contract withLa Liga newcomersRCD Mallorca.[9] After two seasons at Mallorca, Trajkovski was loaned out toDanish Superliga clubAaB on 31 August 2021, for the rest of the season.[10]
On 30 January 2022, Trajkovski joined Saudi clubAl-Fayha on an 18-month contract.[11] On 19 May 2022, he won the2022 King Cup Final with Al-Fayha againstAl Hilal.[12]
On 22 May 2012, theMacedonia U21 national team defeated theNetherlands 1–0 in a friendly match, with the sole goal scored by Trajkovski.[13][14]
Trajkovski debuted for theMacedonian senior squad on 10 August 2011 in a 1–0 awayfriendly victory againstAzerbaijan.[15] He scored his first goal on 14 August 2013 in a 2–0 home friendly victory againstBulgaria.[16] Trajkovski scored a hat-trick on 12 November 2015 in a 4–1 victory overMontenegro at thePhilip II Stadium in Skopje.[17]
Trajkovski was selected for theUEFA Euro 2020 as North Macedonia gained its first major tournament.[18] On 24 March 2022, he scored a last-minute long-range goal in the2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoff semi-finals to beatItaly1–0 at his former club ground inPalermo, eliminating Italy from theFIFA World Cup for a second consecutive time.[19]
