Alexander Ross (15 September 1879[1] – 25 June 1952) was aScottishprofessional golfer.
Ross grew up inDornoch, Scotland.[1] Ross's older brotherDonald Ross was also a professional golfer and eventually became a famous golf course designer.
Early in this career, Ross moved to the United States. Alec, along with his older brotherDonald were founding members ofThe Tin Whistles in 1904.[2] He ultimately found work atBrae Burn Country Club inNewton, Massachusetts. While employed at Brae Burn he won the1907 U.S. Open at the St. Martin's course atPhiladelphia Cricket Club. He competed in theU.S. Open seventeen times in total and finished in the top-10 five times.
Ross had much success at other notable tournaments. His other tournament wins include theNorth and South Open six times, theMassachusetts Open six times, and theSwiss Open three times.
Later in his career, Ross was a club professional atDetroit Golf Club inDetroit, Michiganfor 31 years.
In 1952, Ross died inMiami, Florida.[3]
