4-trimethylaminobutyraldehyde dehydrogenase is anenzyme that in humans is encoded by theALDH9A1gene.[5][6][7]

Function

[edit]

This protein belongs to thealdehyde dehydrogenase family of proteins. It has a high activity for oxidation ofgamma-aminobutyraldehyde (GABAL) and other amino aldehydes. The enzyme catalyzes the dehydrogenation of GABAL togamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). This isozyme is atetramer of identical 54-kD subunits.[7]
