Alberto G. Musalem is an Americaneconomist andfinancial market practitioner who is the President of theFederal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.[1] He assumed office on 2 April 2024,[1] replacingJames Bullard, who quit in order to be a dean atPurdue University.[2]
He is the firstHispanic president of a regional Reserve Bank.[3] In this role, Musalem regularly gives public remarks and speeches on economic conditions and engages with communities in the Eighth Federal Reserve District.[4]
Musalem previously served as CEO and co-CIO of Evince Asset Management LP, a quantitative investment technology company he co-founded in 2018.[2][5] From 2014-2017, Musalem was executive vice president and senior advisor to the president at theFederal Reserve Bank of New York.[6][7]
From 2000-2013, he held several positions at Tudor Investment Corp. Earlier in his career, Musalem served as an economist at theInternational Monetary Fund.[8]
He graduated from theLondon School of Economics with a BSc and Msc in economics, and from theUniversity of Pennsylvania with a PhD in economics in 1996.[9]
Musalem was born inBogota, Colombia.[7] He is married to his wife Claudia Pinto, with whom he has three children.[citation needed]
