Albert Grieg Rutherford (January 3, 1879 – August 10, 1941) was an American lawyer and politician who was elected to three terms as aRepublican member of theU.S. House of Representatives fromPennsylvania, serving from 1937 until his death in 1941.
Albert G. Rutherford was born inWatford, Ontario,Canada. He immigrated to theUnited States in 1883 with his parents, who settled inCarbondale, Pennsylvania. He attendedBlair Academy inBlairstown, NJ, and the Scranton-Lackawanna Business College. He graduated from theUniversity of Pennsylvania Law School atPhiladelphia in 1904, where he became a member of theDelta Chi fraternity.
He served as deputyprothonotary ofLackawanna County, Pennsylvania, from 1907 to 1914. He moved toHonesdale, Pennsylvania, in 1918 and continued the practice of law. He enlisted in thePennsylvania National Guard in 1904, and served as a lieutenant colonel of the Second Pennsylvania Reserve Militia in 1918.
Rutherford was elected as a Republican to theSeventy-fifth,Seventy-sixth, andSeventy-seventh Congresses and served until his death.
Rutherford died inWashington, D.C. on August 10, 1941.
