Alain Fiard (born 17 September 1958) is a French former professionalfootballer who played as amidfielder. He is the technical director ofMelbourne City FC.
Fiard was born inPhnom Penh, Cambodia. He started his playing career withVichy and made oneDivision 3 appearance in the 1977–78 season, before establishing himself as a regular player the following campaign. A move toDivision 1 sideBastia ensued in 1979, and two years later he was a part of the team that won theCoupe de France. Fiard transferred toAuxerre in 1984 and went on to play 105 league matches in the next three seasons. In 1987, he was signed byLille, where he remained for six years until the end of his career. Fiard retired from professional football in 1993, having made more than 450 league appearances.
Fiard was hired as a youth coach at Auxerre in 1997, before being appointed asassistant manager toGuy Roux four years later. Fiard took interim control of the team for five matches during the 2001–02 season when Roux was absent due to illness. He left his assistant post in July 2004 to become manager of Moroccan sideRaja Casablanca. However, he left the club in November of the same year.
Between 2005 and 2008, Fiard worked as ascout for his former clubLille, before taking up a supervisory role atValenciennes. In 2011, he returned to Auxerre as an assistant coach under new managerLaurent Fournier.
In July 2019, Fiard was hired as a technical coach for Australian clubMelbourne City FC.[1]
