Al Ras (Arabic:ٱلرَّأْس,romanized: Ar-Raʾs,lit. 'The Cape') is a locality inDubai,[1] the United Arab Emirates. It is the westernmost locality in the area ofDeira and borders theDubai Creek to the west and south, andAl Dhagaya andAl Buteen to the east. Al Ras, literally meaningThe Cape, is one of the oldest communities in Deira. It is bounded on the north, south and west by routeD 85 (Al Baniyas Road) and to the east by Old Baladiya Street (110th Road).
Important landmarks in Al Ras include theDubai Gold Souk,Dubai Spice Souk andAl Ras Public Library (aka Dubai Public Library), which is the oldestpublic library in Dubai.[2] It was inaugurated bySheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum in 1963, but closed for renovations in 2019.[3] Museums in the area include one dedicated to theNabati poet Mubarak Okaili.[4]
Al Ras metro station on theGreen Line of theDubai Metro serves the area.[5]
An apartment fire in the area in April 2023 led to 16 fatalities.
