Al Qadisiyya is a 1981 Iraqidrama film directed and co-written bySalah Abu Seif. It was entered into the12th Moscow International Film Festival.[1] The historical film was produced in tandem withEgypt and with Iraq’s Cinema and Theatre Department.[2]
The film portrays theBattle of al-Qadisiyyah, in which theIslamic army ofSa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (after the death beforehand ofAl-Muthanna ibn Haritha) definitively ended theSassanid Empire by defeating the Persian forces ofRostam Farrokhzad.[2]
The cost of production was estimated at 4 millionIraqi dinars, at the time equivalent to 15 million dollars. It was the most expensive Arab film production in history at the time.[3][4]
