Al-Mlaihah al-Gharbiyah (Arabic:المليحة الغربية) is a town in southernSyria, administratively part of theIzraa District in theDaraa Governorate. According to theSyria Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Al-Mlaihah al-Gharbiyah had a population of 5,454 in the 2004 census.[1] Its inhabitants are predominantlySunni Muslims.
In 1596 it appeared in theOttomantax registers asMaliha and was part of thenahiya ofBani Malik al-Asraf in theHauran Sanjak. It had an entirelyMuslim population consisting of 30 households and 12 bachelors. The villagers paid a fixed tax rate of 40% on various agricultural products, includingwheat (6000 a.),barley (1800 a.), summer crops (2000 a.), goats and beehives (200 a.); a total of 10,000akçe.[2]
In 1838, it was noted as being east ofash-Shaykh Miskin, with aSunni Muslim population.[3]
