Al-Jami' as-Saghir (Arabic:الجامع الصغير,lit. 'The little collection',al-Jami as-Saghir) is aSunni hadith collection authored by theIslamic scholarJalaluddin al-Suyuti (1445 – 1505 CE/ 849 - 911 H).[1]
As-Saghir is a non-primary[2] hadith work which contains 10,031 hadith.[3] Al-Suyuti extracted all of the hadiths related to the Islamic prophet Muhammad's speech contrary to Muhammad's actions and compiled them in his smaller collection entitling it Jami al-Saghir.[4]
The Hadith scholarAl-Munawi published a famous commentary entitledFayd al-Qadir Sharh al-Jami` al-Saghir in 8 huge volumes and has become an important reference for the latehadith studies.[5]
As-Saghir is an abridgement ofal-Suyuti's larger work al-Jami' al-Kabir. His attempt to compile all of the remaining hadiths in one massive collection, the Jami al-Kabir, was incomplete when he died. What remained was published in 30 large volumes, showcasing around nine to ten alphabetic orderings of the prophetic traditions.[4]
Which in turn was further ordered and arranged inal-Mutaqqi al-Hindi's workKanz al-Ummal.[1][3][6]
Al-Jaami As-Saghir is a collection of prophetic traditions by Imam Suyuti, which contains ten thousand and thirty one (10,031) hadiths.
It was named as "Al-Jami al-Saghir" because it was absorbed from his distinguished writing "al-Jami al-Kabir".
