Bakiriyya Mosque is amosque constructed inSana'a around 1596–97 by theOttoman governor ofYemen, Hasan Pasha.[1] The mosque fell into disrepair after the Ottomans were driven out of Yemen in 1626 but was fully restored when the Ottomans recapturedSana'a in 1878.[2]
The mosque has oneminaret and a large prayer hall covered by anOttoman style dome.[3] The Dome of Al-Bakiriyya mosque consists of two main parts, one of which is exposed and called theSanctuary,Pylon orcourtyard, and the other is covered and known as the House of Prayer or Prayer hall.[4] Several smaller domed extensions surround the main prayer hall.[3]
Theminbar andmihrab were made of material imported fromIstanbul.[3]
