Ajoy Kumar Dutta is an Indian social worker from the northeast Indian state ofAssam.[1] He is aGuwahati-based activist who is associated with severalnon governmental organizations working in the state.[2] A former municipal councillor at theGuwahati Municipal Corporation, he successfully contested the Assam Assembly Elections of 1978 as aJanata Party candidate[3] defeating Nandeshwar Talukdar of theCommunist Party of India by polling close to 34 percent of the total votes polled,[4] and represented theGuwahati East constituency in the Assembly.[5] The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of thePadma Shri, in 2016, for his contributions to society.[6]
