Ajmal Ameer is an Indian actor known for his works inMalayalam,Tamil, andTelugu language films. He has won twoFilmfare Awards South for his roleAnjathe (2008) andKo (2011).

Early and personal life

Ajmal studiedmedicine inVinnytsia,Ukraine.[1][2][3] Ajmal has two brothers Askar and Abith.[4] Ajmal is married to Renju and they have a son and daughter.[5]

Career

Ajmal's lead debut film wasPranayakalam, oppositeVimala Raman inMalayalam. This was followed by the Tamil filmAnjathe, directed byMyshkin, in which he played an angry young man.[2] The film became a commercial success, with Ajmal receiving several awards for his performance.[6] He next starred in the Malayalam filmMadambi alongsideMohanlal. It remains his only hit in Malayalam aside fromLoham andTwo Countries.[7] In 2009, he has gone on to do Tamils films likeTN 07 AL 4777 andThiru Thiru Thuru Thuru. He also acted in an international production in MalayalamDe Nova, which went unnoticed. The anti-hero character, Vasanthan Perumal, he portrayed in the 2011 Tamil movieKoearned him a lot of appreciation. Based on an online poll conducted byThe Times of India, Ajmal won theChennai Times Film Award for Best Actor in a Negative Role Male.[8] In 2012, he made his debut in theTelugu filmRachcha.[9] His willingness to experiment and go beyond the image of the virtuous hero have garnered him a rich spectrum of characters from Tamil and Telugu.[10] In 2013, he played an independent cinematographer in the suspense thrillerBangles.[11] He also did inKaruppampatti (2013) andVetri Selvan (2014), which for lack of good publicity, bombed at the box office.[12]

He also acted in the Telugu filmPrabhanjanam (2014) in which he played the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.[7] In 2015, He hasn't done any major roles in Malayalam and was seen in guest roles inLoham andTwo Countries.[13] In 2015, he acted in the Malayalam movieBen. Since then he had not been active in Malayalam, until 2022 when he played a police officer in the moviePathaam valavu. He then appeared in the Tamil movie,Iravukku Aayiram Kangal (2018).[14] In 2019, his Tamil films are alsoChithiram Pesuthadi 2 andDevi 2. He is next seen inNayanthara's film titledNetrikann (2021). He is also part of Malayalam movieKshanam.[15] He has most recently been seen inMangalavaaram.[16]
