Aitor Monroy Rueda (born 18 October 1987) is a Spanish professionalfootballer who plays as adefensive midfielder forAzuqueca.

Club career

Born inMadrid, Monroy signed withAtlético Madrid in 2005 fromneighbouring clubRSD Alcalá. He could only represent theC andB teams over a four-year spell, the latter in theSegunda División B.[2]

From2009 to2011, Monroy continued to compete in division three, withUD Logroñés. He was rarely played during his spell, mainly due to injuries.[3][4][5]

Monroy's first top-flight experience occurred in2011–12, withFC Ceahlăul Piatra Neamț inRomania.[6] In thefollowing campaign he appeared in 28Liga I matches and scored his first goal as a professional, in a 3–0 win againstCS Concordia Chiajna.[7]

In January 2014, Monroy transferred to fellow top-flight sideCFR Cluj for €40,000.[8] That November, he chose to terminate his contract over unpaid wages,[9] and the following February he signed withMoldovan National Division'sFC Sheriff Tiraspol.[10]

After two seasons withMaccabi Petah Tikva F.C. of theIsraeli Premier League, Monroy returned to Romania in January 2018, signing forFC Dinamo București.[11] In the following years, he represented in quick successionFC Dunărea Călărași (Romanian top division),[12]Internacional de Madrid (Spanish third tier)[13] andJamshedpur FC (Indian Super League).[14]

Monroy returned to the Spanish lower leagues and Alcalá in March 2022, aged 34.[2] On 12 September 2024, he joinedCD Azuqueca also ofTercera Federación.[15]
