Airdrie and Shotts (Gaelic:An t-Àrd-Ruigh agus Shotts) is acounty constituency of theScottish Parliament covering part of thecouncil area ofNorth Lanarkshire.[2] It elects oneMember of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) by theplurality (first past the post) method of election. Followingsecond periodic review of Scottish Parliament boundaries the seat is to be renamed simplyAidrie to avoid confusion with theAirdrie and Shotts constituency of the UK Parliament. The first election under this new name will be at the2026 Scottish Parliament election.[3]

The seat has also been one of nine constituencies in theCentral Scotlandelectoral region, which elects sevenadditional members, in addition to nine constituency MSPs, to produce a form ofproportional representation for the region as a whole. Following thesecond periodic review of Scottish Parliament boundaries, the renamed Aidrie will form part of the newCentral Scotland and Lothians West electoral region from the2026 Scottish Parliament election onwards.[4]

The seat has been held byNeil Gray of theScottish National Party since the2021 Scottish Parliament election.

The other eight constituencies of the Central Scotland region are:Coatbridge and Chryston,Cumbernauld and Kilsyth,East Kilbride,Falkirk East,Falkirk West,Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse,Motherwell and Wishaw andUddingston and Bellshill. The region covers all of theFalkirk council area, all of theNorth Lanarkshire council area and part of theSouth Lanarkshire council area.

From 2026, the other eight constituencies of the Central Scotland and Lothians West region will beAlmond Valley,Bathgate,Coatbridge and Chryston,Cumbernauld and Kilsyth,Falkirk East and Linlithgow,Falkirk West,Motherwell and Wishaw, andUddingston and Bellshill.[5] The region will cover all of theFalkirk council area, all of theNorth Lanarkshire council area, all of theWest Lothian council area and part of theSouth Lanarkshire council area.[2]

The constituency was created at the same time as the Scottish Parliament, in1999, with the name and boundaries of the existingAirdrie and Shotts constituency of the UK House of Commons. Ahead of the2005 United Kingdom general election, Scottish Westminster (House of Commons) constituencies were mostly replaced with new constituencies.[6] It is now one of four Scottish Parliament constituencies covering theNorth Lanarkshire council area, the others beingCoatbridge and Chryston,Cumbernauld and Kilsyth,Motherwell and Wishaw andUddingston and Bellshill, the last of which spans parts of both North andSouth Lanarkshire.

The constituency lies entirely within the North Lanarkshire council area, and covers following electoralwards ofNorth Lanarkshire Council:[7]
