TheAille River (Irish:Abhainn na hAille[1]) is a river in County Mayo, Ireland, flowing from thePartry Mountains toLough Mask, andflows underground for part of its course.[2]
The Aille River rises in thePartry Mountains 16 km (10 mi) south ofWestport,[3] drains the northwest part of the Partry range and sinks underground at the Aille Caves. It continues as asubterranean river for 4 km (2.5 mi), resurging atPollatoomary. It flows south toCloon Lough, which feeds intoLough Mask.
