Agnes Morton (6 March 1872 – 5 April 1952) was a Britishfemale tennis player.[1] She twice reached the Ladies Singles finals at the 1908 and 1909Wimbledon Championships and claimed victory in 1914 in Ladies Doubles with partnerElizabeth Ryan, the same year she reached the singles final at theNorthern Championships. She placed fourth at the1908 Summer Olympics in Ladies Lawn Tennis.[2]

Career

Morton played her first event at the Essex Championships in 1889. She won her first tournament at theColchester Championship in 1891.

Between 1891 and 1914 she contested 70 career singles finals, winning 46 titles.

Her main career singles highlights included winning theLondon Championships two times, theTunbridge Wells Open three times, theEast of England Championships two times, theEssex Championships six times, theSuffolk Championships nine times, and theRedhill Open nine times.

On the international circuit she won theInternational Tennis Championship of Deauville one time, theBaden Baden International two times, andThe Homburg Cup three times.

In 1903, she was described byA. Wallis Myers as a 'careful, steady and improving player'.[3]
