Agata Bronisława Buzek (born 20 September 1976)[1] is a Polish actress and model. She began her career appearing in filmsThe Ballad of the Windshield Washers (1998),The Gateway of Europe (1999),The Hexer (2001) andThe Revenge (2002), receivingPolish Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress nomination for latter.

Buzek receivedPolish Academy Award for Best Actress andShooting Stars Award for her role in the 2009 comedy-drama film,Reverse. She won her second Polish Academy Award for Best Actress for performance in the 2021 comedy-drama film,My Wonderful Life. Buzek starred in a various internationally-produced films, such asNightwatching (2007),Hummingbird (2013),The Innocents (2016),High Life (2018),After Blue (2021) andDovbush (2023).

Early life

Buzek, the daughter of Polish politician, formerPrime Minister of Poland andPresident of the European ParliamentJerzy Buzek, was born inPyskowice inGliwice County, Poland. At an early age she hadpoliomyelitis and was treated inGermany.[2] After studying at atheatre academy in Warsaw, she went toParis where she worked as a model.[3]

Buzek made her screen debut appearing in the 1998 Italian drama filmThe Ballad of the Windshield Washers and the following year co-starred oppositeKinga Preis andAlicja Bachleda-Curuś in the historical drama film,The Gateway of Europe. She appeared in the 2001 fantasy filmThe Hexer and reprised her role inthe television series the following year. In 2002 she appeared in the comedy filmThe Revenge, directed byAndrzej Wajda. She guest-starred in the German television seriesTatort andPolizeiruf 110, and co-starred in the drama film,Within the Whirlwind (2009).

In 2009, Buzek receivedShooting Stars Award at the60th Berlin International Film Festival for her performance in the comedy-drama film,Reverse.[1] The film and her performance was well-received by international critics.[4] She also receivedGdynia Film Festival Award for Best Actress, and thePolish Academy Award for Best Actress.[1] In 2013 she made her American film debut starring oppositeJason Statham in the action crime dramaHummingbird.[5] She starred in Polish filmsFotograf (2014),Performer (2015) and11 Minutes (2015).

In 2016, Buzek starred alongsideLou de Laâge andAgata Kulesza in the drama filmThe Innocents receiving Polish Academy Award nomination forBest Supporting Actress.[1] She received another Best Supporting Actress nomination for performance inA Coach's Daughter (2018). In 2018 she co-starred in the science fiction horror filmHigh Life directed byClaire Denis. She later appeared in the Polish crime dramaDark, Almost Night (2019), a French romantic comedyWhite as Snow (2019), the German thrillerSleep (2020), the Latvian dramaThe Pit (2020), the Polish Netflix dramaErotica 2022 (2020), and the French dramaDune Dreams (2021). In 2021 she won her second Polish Academy Award for Best Actress for performance in the comedy-drama film,My Wonderful Life.[1] In 2022 she starred in the psychological drama filmIllusion for Netflix. In 2023 she starred in the action fantasy filmShe Is Conann and the historical adventure film,Dovbush.[6]
