African Indonesians refers toIndonesians of full or partial African ancestry.[1] They may have been born in or immigrated toIndonesia. The first wave of immigration was in the 19th century, between 1830 and 1872, when West Africanswere recruited from theDutch Gold Coast for military service and indentured servitude in theEast Indies.[2][3]
