InGreek mythology,Aergia (/ˈɜːrə/;Ancient Greek:Ἀεργία, 'inactivity')[1] is the personification ofsloth, idleness, indolence andlaziness. She is the translation of theLatin Socordia, or Ignavia: the name was translated into Greek becauseHyginus mentioned her being based on a Greek source, and thus she can be considered as both a Greek and Roman goddess.[citation needed] Aergia's opposite character isHorme, a goddess of effort.
