Adriana Sofía Ugarte Pardal (born 17 January 1985) is a Spanish actress.[1] She is known for her leading roles on television seriesLa Señora andEl tiempo entre costuras. Ugarte landed a starring role in the 2016Pedro Almodóvar filmJulieta.
Adriana Sofía Ugarte Pardal was born inMadrid on 17 January 1985,[2] the daughter of Yolanda Pardal, lawyer and writer.[3] She is the grandniece ofEduardo Ugarte, who was a collaborator ofLuis Buñuel and who was married to a daughter ofCarlos Arniches.[4] She studied at theColegio del Pilar in Madrid.[2] She enrolled into a licentiate degree of Philosophy and Arts at theComplutense University of Madrid, which she temporarily shelved,[5][6] and later resumed at theNational University of Distance Education (UNED).[7]
Ugarte, age 16, debuted in the short filmMala Espina (2001), directed by Belén Macías,[5] and won the award for the Best Female Performance at the Alcalá de Henares Festival of Short Films for playing a schizophrenic teenage girl.[8] She was givenguest roles in TV series such asPolicías, en el corazón de la calle,Hospital Central andEl comisario.[9] She was nominated to theGoya Award for Best New Actress for her role as Consuelo in the 2006 filmDoghead directed bySanti Amodeo.[10]
Ugarte's leading performance as Victoria Márquez de la Vega in the television seriesLa Señora (aired from 2008 to 2010) earned her great popularity.[11] This same year, she made an appearance inThe Hanged Man, withClara Lago andÁlvaro Cervantes. She then starred inPaper Castles (2009) along with Nilo Mur and Biel Durán, and inLo contrario al amor (2010), alongsideHugo Silva. She also featured in the miniseriesStolen Children (Telecinco), in which she plays Susana.
In 2013, two years after shooting was finalized,El tiempo entre costuras premiered, the series based on the novel of the same name by writerMaría Dueñas. Starring Ugarte as Sira, it achieved breaking viewing figures inAntena 3 by the closure of the series.[12]
