Adi Gevins

Adi Gevins is aSan Francisco Bay Area-based radio documentarian, producer, educator, archivist, and creative consultant who has been referred to as the "fairy godmother ofcommunity radio".[1][2][3][4][5]

Radio career

Gevins has won an Ohio State Award, an American Bar Association Silver Gavel, multiple Golden Reels from theNational Federation of Community Broadcasters, and two George FosterPeabody Awards, one withLaurie Garrett forScience Story in 1978, and one with SoundVision forThe DNA Files in 2000.[6][7][8][9][10]

Much of Gevins' work has been done for thePacifica Radio stationKPFA inBerkeley, California, including "One Billion Seconds Later", which won theOhio State Award and "Me and My Shadow", a documentary aboutCointelpro's infiltration of theNew Left.[11] Gevins served as executive producer for the celebrated public radio documentary series, "The Bill of Rights Radio Education Project", produced forKPFA - Pacifica Radio.[4]

Gevins holds a master's degree in library and information studies from the University of California at Berkeley.[4]

In 2021, Gevins received theSociety of Professional Journalists' Norcal 2020 Excellence in JournalismUnsung Hero Award for her work as protector of the KPFA archives; as well as, her broader archival efforts assists organizations around the country in archiving their own broadcasts.[12]

Gevins was married to communications lawyer andcommunity radio andtelevision advocateMichael Couzens.[13]
