American film producer
Adele Marie Romanski (/əˈdeɪləroʊˈmænskiː/; born November 10, 1982) is an American independentfilm producer. She is best known for producing the acclaimed filmsMoonlight,Never Rarely Sometimes Always, andAftersun.Moonlight received eightOscar nominations at the89th Academy Awards,[1] winningBest Picture for Romanski, along withDede Gardner andJeremy Kleiner.[2][3]
Romanski grew up inVenice, Florida. She graduated fromPine View School in 2001, later graduating fromFlorida State University in 2004.[4] She attended FSU with directorBarry Jenkins.[5]
She was married to Academy Award nominated cinematographerJames Laxton, who has worked on several of the films she produced.[6]
In January 2017 it was announced Romanski would be an executive producer on season 2 ofThe Girlfriend Experience.[7] She producedUnder the Silver Lake, which was released in 2018. She was instrumental in instigating Barry Jenkins' sophomore feature,Moonlight, including getting him to decide on concepts, scouting locations and recommendingMahershala Ali for the role of Juan.[8][9] She won theAcademy Award for Best Picture for producing the 2016 filmMoonlight.
In addition to producing, Romanski has also written and directed the 2012 filmLeave Me Like You Found Me.[10][11]
In February 2018, she was selected to be on the jury for the main competition section of the68th Berlin International Film Festival.[12]
