Achiroë (/əˈkɪroʊi/;Ancient Greek:Ἀχιρόη[akʰiróɛː]),Anchirrhoë (Ἀγχιρρόη), orAnchinoë (Ἀγχινόη),[1] which is perhaps a mistake for Anchiroë, was inGreek mythology anEgyptiannaiad, as daughter of the river-godNilus. She was the wife of KingBelus of Egypt, by whom she became the mother ofAegyptus andDanaus, and, according to some accounts,Cepheus, andPhineus.[1][2]
Otherwise, the possible mother of these children and spouse of Belus was calledSide, eponym ofSidon inPhoenicia.[3]
Anchinoe was a minor figure in Greek accounts and only mentioned byApollodorus in hisBibliotheca:
