Abner W. Files (November 26, 1829 – March 24, 1913), also known asA. W. Files, was a newspaper editor andstate auditor inArkansas. He edited theAshley County Times. He also ran for governor as aPopulist before returning to theDemocratic Party. He served in theConfederate Army.[1][2]
He was born inTuscaloosa, Alabama. He served asState Auditor of Arkansas[3] for four years from 1883 to 1887 as a Democrat. He was succeeded in office by former State Auditor and formerGovernor of ArkansasWilliam Read Miller.
He lived inLittle Rock. He was a private secretary for GovernorJames P. Eagle. He became a Populist, and served as its party chairman in Arkansas,[4] and then joined theBull Moose Party. He married and had four daughters and a son.[5]
He died at home.[6]
