Aberdeen South and North Kincardine (Gaelic:Obar Dheathain a Deas agus Ceann Chàrdainn a Tuath) is acounty constituency of theScottish Parliament covering part of theAberdeen City council area andAberdeenshire.[2] Under theadditional-member electoral system used for elections to the Scottish Parliament, it elects oneMember of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) by thefirst past the post method of election. It is also one of ten constituencies in theNorth East Scotlandelectoral region, which elects seven additional members, in addition to the ten constituency MSPs, to produce a form ofproportional representation for the region as a whole.[3]
The constituency was created for2011 Scottish Parliament election, and combines most of the formerAberdeen South seat along with part of Aberdeenshire that was formerly inAberdeenshire West.[4] It has been held byAudrey Nicoll of theScottish National Party since the2021 Scottish Parliament election. For the2026 Scottish Parliament election the constituency will be renamed asAberdeen Deeside and North Kincardine, whilst retaining its current boundaries; the change of name was implemented at thesecond periodic review of Scottish Parliament boundaries to maintain consistency with the naming of theAberdeen Donside seat.[5]
The other nine constituencies of the North East Scotland region are:Aberdeen Central,Aberdeen Donside,Aberdeenshire East,Aberdeenshire West,Angus North and Mearns,Angus South,Banffshire and Buchan Coast,Dundee City East andDundee City West.[3] The region covers all of theAberdeen City council area, theAberdeenshire council area, theAngus council area, theDundee City council area and part of theMoray council area.[6]
For thefirst election to the Scottish Parliament, the constituencies used were the same as those already in existence for theHouse of Commons. For the2005 general election, the boundaries of the House of Commons constituencies were subject to some alteration, and so these constituencies and those for the Scottish Parliament diverged. There is no longer any link between the two sets of boundaries. Following thefirst periodic review of parliamentary constituencies to the Scottish Parliament, the Boundary Commission for Scotland created newly shaped seats for theAberdeen City council area andAberdeenshire, which were first used at the2011 Election.
Aberdeen City is divided between three Scottish Parliament constituencies:Aberdeen Central,Aberdeen Donside and Aberdeen Deeside and North Kincardine. Central and Donside are entirely within the city area, while Deeside and North Kincardine also takes in North Kincardine in theAberdeenshire council area. The remainder ofAberdeenshire is represented by four further constituencies in the Scottish Parliament:Aberdeenshire East,Aberdeenshire West,Angus North and Mearns andBanffshire and Buchan Coast.
The seat is formed of the followingwards ofAberdeen City Council andAberdeenshire Council:[2]
