Aarthi Agarwal (March 5, 1984 – June 6, 2015) was an Indian actress who primarily worked inTelugu cinema[1] andTamil cinema.

Early life and career

Agarwal was born on March 5, 1984, inNew Jersey toGujarati parents.[2][3][4][5] Her younger sister Aditi Agarwal is also an actress in the Telugu film industry.[6] At around 14 years of age, actorSuniel Shetty spotted her and invited her to dance on stage inPhiladelphia,Pennsylvania. After the performance, he asked her father to encourage her to take up acting inBollywood. At the age of 16 she made her film debut inPaagalpan (2001).

Agarwal made her Telugu film debut inNuvvu Naaku Nachav (2001) with actorVenkatesh. She was one of the few non-Telugu speaking actresses to work with noted Indian film starsChiranjeevi,Nandamuri Balakrishna,Nagarjuna,Venkatesh,Prabhas,Mahesh Babu,Ravi Teja, andJr NTR.[2]

She tried venturing intoTamil films also throughWinner (2003) andBambara Kannaley (2005). In Winner movie, she was cast as the female lead initially. But due to her unavailability in the second shooting schedule,[7] she was eventually replaced byKiran Rathod owing to her popularity after the Tamil filmGemini (2002). She took up popular Telugu remakes ofJyothika's blockbuster Tamil films likeDhool (Veede) andPriyamaana Thozhi (Vasantham)[8]

In 2005, media reported that Agarwal had attempted suicide over the failure of a romantic relationship with a co-star.[9][3][10] In 2006, following an accident at home, she was hospitalized with internal head injuries atApollo Hospital, Jubilee Hills,Hyderabad and put on ventilator support.[1][11][12]

In 2007, Agarwal married a software engineer; the couple divorced in 2009.[13]

Death

On June 6, 2015, Agarwal was pronounceddead on arrival atAtlantiCare Regional Medical Center inAtlantic City, New Jersey.[14] Agarwal, who had undergone aliposuction surgery six weeks prior, had severe breathing problems before her death.[15][16][17][18] Her manager stated the cause of her death was cardiac arrest.[19] She had been living with her parents inEgg Harbor Township.[20][21]
