AMC+ is an Americansubscription video on demandstreaming service owned byAMC Networks that was launched on June 11, 2020. The service is a premium bundle that includes the live feeds and program libraries of the company's television networks and streaming brands along with its own exclusive content.[2]
AMC+ was first launched in June 11, 2020 forXfinity customers, and included content that was previously exclusive to subscribers of theAMC cable channel through itsTV Everywhere AMC Premiere app.[3] On October 1, 2020, AMC+ launched onAmazon Prime Video Channels andApple TV Channels, and became available toDish Network andSling TV customers.[4][5] On November 23, 2020, AMC+ launched onRoku.[6] On April 6, 2021, AMC+ became available onYouTube TV.[7] In the same month, AMC+ launched on DirecTV. In August 2021, AMC+ finally launched on TV, computer and mobile devices.
FormerBBC America executive director Courtney Thomasma was named general manager of AMC+ on April 8, 2021. Thomasma reports to Miquel Penella,AMC Networks’ President of Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD).[8]
In 2024,AMC Networks andCharter Communications reached an early renewal agreement for the distribution of AMC's portfolio of linear cable networks, which included complimentary access to AMC+ forSpectrum TV Select customers and the option to purchase the service for internet-only subscribers.[9] Financial terms of the new deal were not disclosed, though it was described as extending "for multiple years to come".[10]
AMC+ primarily features content from channel brands owned and operated byAMC Networks, most notably its flagship channelAMC. Other cable channels includeBBC America,IFC, andSundance TV as well as theVOD streaming servicesAcorn TV,Shudder and Sundance Now. The service features early access to original series (such as AMC'sThe Walking Dead franchise), with new episodes offered up to a week before their cable television premieres. The service also includes exclusive films from the aforementioned channels and services as well as the film production companiesHIDIVE,IFC Films andRLJE Films.
The service launched in Canada onAmazon'sPrime Video andApple TV in August 2021, ahead of the premiere ofthe eleventh season ofThe Walking Dead.[12] Some content on the American version of the service has not been made available in Canada due to varying programming rights.
The service launched in Australia as a channel on Prime Video and Apple TV as well in November 2021, which includeAcorn TV on the package.[13]
In March 2022, AMC+ launched in India via Apple TV Channels, including Acorn TV.[14] In June, the service also launched on Prime Video.[15]
The service is expected to be launched inNew Zealand,Latin America and several European countries over 2022 and into 2023.[16] Plans of further expansion were later suspended and no announcements of the service arriving in new countries have been made ever since.[17]
In October 2022, AMC+ launched in New Zealand with a bundle option including access to both Acorn TV andShudder.[18][19] Also in the same month,KT added AMC+ into their newly rebrandedGenie TV (formerly Olleh) as part of the service's one-stop Live TV & VOD platform.[20]
