Clubul Sportiv Academica Recea, commonly knownAcademica Recea, or simply asRecea, is a semi-pro Romanianfootball club based inRecea,Maramureș County.
The team was founded in 2013 and promoted toLiga III at the end of the 2014–15 season, after a promotion play-off against Voința Cetate, winners ofBistrița-Năsăud County series. After atwo-legged tie Recea won 5–4 and promoted for the first time in its history in theLiga III. Even if the club was founded in 2013, on the club's logo appear 2015 as the year of foundation, this year being the one in which the club was legally reorganized and changed its name fromAS Comuna Recea toACSF Comuna Recea. After it was relegated, in the summer of 2021 from theLiga II back to theLiga III, the club was dissolved.
After one year of inactivity the football club was re-founded asAcademica Recea and enrolled in theLiga IV.
Even if the current club was founded in 2013, the history of football fromRecea started back in 1959,[1] when Dinamo Săsar, club based in the village of Săsar,Recea Commune, was founded. The team was in tight relation withDinamo București,[2] having a fulminating ascent and promoting in the second league at the end of the 1959–60 season. The club played for two years in the second tier, then relegated and never came back.[3][4]
The club was founded in 2013, under the name ofAS Comuna Recea and was enrolled in the fourth tier,Liga IV, South series. In its first season Comuna Recea finished 3rd afterFCM Baia Mare's second squad and Speranța Coltău.[5] In the second seasonRecenii won the series, four points ahead Viitorul Ulmeni and played the final ofMaramureș County series against North series winners, Bradul Vișeu.[6] The final was played onViorel Mateianu Stadium inBaia Mare and Recea won 2–1 after extra time and qualified for theLiga III promotion play-off where after atwo-legged tie against Voința Cetate, champions ofBistrița-Năsăud County, won 5–4 and promoted for the first time in its history in theLiga III.[7]
After it was relegated in the summer of 2021, from theLiga II back to theLiga III it was dissolved, then after one year of inactivity the football club was re-founded asAcademica Recea and enrolled in theLiga IV.[8]
Academica Recea plays its home matches onCentral Stadium inRecea. The stadium was opened on 9 May 2018, having a covered stand of 600 seats, a pitch covered withgrass and a second training ground. The total cost of the construction was amount €300,000.[9]
Between 2014 and 2018, when the stadium was under construction,Recenii played their home matches on Comunal Stadium, in the village of Săsar,Recea commune, with a capacity of 100 seats. In the 2013–14 season, the first after foundation, the team played on the Mocira Stadium, in the village of Mocira, same Recea commune.
