Asociación Deportiva Municipal de Pérez Zeledón is aCosta Ricanfootball team playing at the top level in thePrimera División de Costa Rica.
It is based inSan Isidro de El General. Their home stadium isEstadio Municipal Pérez Zeledón. Their nickname isGuerreros del Sur or The Southern Warriors.
Municipal Pérez Zeledón was founded in 1962 and they reached the Second Division in 1976.[1]
In 1988,Asociación Deportiva Municipal Generaleña won promotion to the Primera Division and in 1991 a second team fromPérez Zeledón,Asociación Deportiva Pérez Zeledón, also clinched the second division title, prompting to merge the teams intoAsociación Deportiva Municipal de Pérez Zeledón which would go and represent the canton in the top tier.[1] In 2010,Puma Generaleña was founded as successor to AD Generaleña.[2]
The team were surprise winners of the 2004–05 Apertura in thePrimera División, their first and only title so far, under the coaching ofCarlos Restrepo againstSaprissa defeated them on their own home stadium 0–1.[3] Although, they missed out on the overall championship title, losing againstAlajuelense 1–4 on aggregate.[4]The club's top goalscorer that season wasEver Alfaro. Also in the team wereWilliam Sunsing andGéiner Segura,[5] who were both part of theTicos along their path to 2006's World Cup held in Germany.
