α-Vetivone is anorganic compound that is classified as asesquiterpene (derived from threeisoprene units). It is a major component of the oil ofvetiver, which is used to prepare certain high valueperfumes.
α-Vetivone is isolated bysteam distillation of the roots of the grassVetiveria zizanioides. Two other components of this distillate are the sesquiterpeneskhusimol andβ-vetivone shown below.[1]
