The86th Regiment of Foot (Rutland Regiment) was a Britishregiment raised for service in theAmerican Revolutionary War.[1]

It was raised inEngland in July 1779 byCharles Manners, 4th Duke of Rutland, in the area aroundNewark, Nottinghamshire andGrantham,Lincolnshire. Thecolonel wasAnthony St Leger.[2] The regiment had yellowfacings on their red coats.[3] It was sent to theLeeward Islands in January 1780. Five companies stationed onTobago were captured June 1781.[3]

The regiment returned to England and was disbanded in 1783 atYork.[2]
