The82nd annualVenice International Film Festival was held from 27 August to 6 September 2025, atVenice Lido inItaly. American filmmakerAlexander Payne served as Jury President for the main competition,[1] while Italian actress and comedianEmanuela Fanelli hosted the opening and closing ceremonies.[2]

TheGolden Lion was awarded toFather Mother Sister Brother byJim Jarmusch.[3][4] German filmmakerWerner Herzog and American actressKim Novak were awarded theGolden Lion for Lifetime Achievement during the festival.[5][6]

Before and during the festival numerousPro-Palestine demonstrations were held, supported by the festival organization or by stars attending,[7][8][9][10][11] specially during the world premiere ofGaza-set docudramaThe Voice of Hind Rajab, where further demonstrations took place demanding an end for theongoing violence in Gaza during its 23-minutes long standing ovation.[12][13][14] Artistic directorAlberto Barbera endorsed any demonstrations, but stated that the protests should not disrupt the festival's schedule.[15][16]

The festival opened withLa grazia byPaolo Sorrentino,[17] and closed withDog 51 byCédric Jimenez.

Venice Spotlight

Formerly calledOrizzonti Extra, the section was officially renamedVenice Spotlight in this year edition. The collateral section programs independent films with commercial appeal from newcomers filmmakers or internationally established ones.
