The77th annualVenice International Film Festival was held from 2 to 12 September 2020, atVenice Lido inItaly.[4] Albeit in a "more restrained format" due to theCOVID-19 pandemic, the festival held all its screenings with public presence.[5][6]

Australian actressCate Blanchett was Jury President of the main competition.[7] Italian actressAnna Foglietta hosted the opening and closing nights of the festival.[8] TheGolden Lion was awarded toNomadland byChloé Zhao.[9]

The festival opened withThe Ties byDaniele Luchetti, the first Italian film after 11 years to open the festival.[10] And closed withYou Came Back byStefano Mordini.
