686 Gersuind is aminor planet orbiting theSun that was discovered by German astronomerAugust Kopff on 15 August 1909 fromHeidelberg. It was named after a character inGerhart Hauptmann's playGersuind.

This object is the namesake of afamily of 40–207 asteroids that share similar spectral properties andorbital elements; hence they may have arisen from the same collisional event. All members have a relatively highorbital inclination.[2]
