The63rd British Academy Film Awards, more commonly known as theBAFTAs, were held on 21 February 2010 at theRoyal Albert Hall inLondon, honouring the best national and foreign films of2009. Presented by theBritish Academy of Film and Television Arts, accolades were handed out for the best feature-length film and documentaries of any nationality that were screened at British cinemas in 2009.
The nominees were announced on 21 January 2010.[1][2] Three films received the most nominations in eight categories;Avatar,An Education andThe Hurt Locker.District 9 followed with seven.[3]The Hurt Locker took home the most awards with six. This year marked the first year of the new Academy President,William, Prince of Wales, who presented theBAFTA Fellowship award toVanessa Redgrave, alongsideUma Thurman.[4]
Jonathan Ross hosted the ceremony for the fourth consecutive year.
