K-type giant star in the constellation Auriga
51 Aurigae is a single[ 8] star in the northernconstellation ofAuriga . It is visible to the naked eye as a dim, orange-hued star with anapparent visual magnitude of about 5.70.[ 2] parallax , it is located some 464 light-years (142 parsecs) away from theSun .[ 1] radial velocity of 32 km/s.[ 4]
At 2.2 billion years old,[ 7] main sequence and is now aK-type giant star .[ 2] [ 6] [ 1] photosphere with aneffective temperature of about 4,277K .[ 6]
