The3rd Greek Mountain Brigade (Greek:3η Ελληνική Ορεινή Ταξιαρχία,Triti Elliniki Οrini Τaxiarkhia, ΙΙΙ Ε.Ο.Τ.) was a unit of mountain infantry formed by theGreek government in exile inEgypt duringWorld War II. It was formed from a few thousand politically reliable loyalists, and was briefly trained in Lebanon before being dispatched to Italy.[1] Commanded by ColonelThrasyvoulos Tsakalotos,[1] it fought in theBattle of Rimini in Italy (underI Canadian Corps),[2] where it earned the honorific title "Rimini Brigade" (Ταξιαρχία ΡίμινιΤaxiarkhia Rimini).[1]
In September 1944, the 3rd Greek Mountain Brigade was assigned to I Canadian Corps to gain battle experience during the Corps' attack against Rimini, a city on Italy's Adriatic coast.
