The39th British Academy Film Awards, more commonly known as theBAFTAs, took place on 16 March 1986 at theGrosvenor House Hotel inLondon, honouring the best national and foreign films of1985. Presented by theBritish Academy of Film and Television Arts, accolades were handed out for the best feature-length film and documentaries of any nationality that were screened atBritish cinemas in 1985.[1]
There are no records showing any nominations, or a winner, for theBAFTA Award for Best Direction at this ceremony.[2]
Robert Greenhut andWoody Allen'sThe Purple Rose of Cairo won awards forBest Film and Original Screenplay.[3]William Hurt andPeggy Ashcroft took home Best Actor and Actress, whilstDenholm Elliott andRosanna Arquette won in the supporting categories.
The ceremony was hosted byMichael Aspel for the second time.
